Saturday Night Steak and Celebrity (?)

So, our little date was lovely – Steak under the Stars put us on the top deck (almost) outside in a lovely bijou restaurant. Fernando, the evenings head waiter was lovely, giving us and the 3 other tables plenty of attention as we sipped on wine and ate delicious foods… We had a delicious duck terrine, followed by cheese soup, then an excellent steak with a few fat chips and beans wrapped in bacon, which was served with a choice of green peppercorn or bĂ©arnaise sauce. That meant there was no choice and the peppercorns were liberally applied all over the plate. Lovely.

Now, one feature of this cruise so far has been the rumours of a “celebrity” on board. I’m not at all familiar with this work, but the name Wayne Sleep (?) has been whispered from pointy end to flat (I’m down with the nautical terminology) since we set off. John, one half of the Manchesters, even said he saw him at the urinal!

However, not knowing any more than what we’d picked up from overheard conversations, I could not pick this man out of line-up to save my life, so it was with some surprise that a jovial little man popped up and started chatting to us as we attacked our cows! I mean, this is a very friendly boat, people strike up conversations with one another with ease here, but this seemed a little much… And yet it was hilarious. We soon realised he must be “someone”, and that there was only one “someone” on board ergo & ipso facto it must be mister Sleep.

This became doubly funny when the sommelier started singing love songs to us all (most tables were couples celebrating anniversaries and the like) and insisted we all get up and dance… I’d picked up enough over the days to know to ask if there was a choreographer on hand, but sadly he didn’t oblige :(

When Wayne was chatting to us, he very kindly offered to buy us a drink – We had a bottle of wine on the table, so he suggested a digestivo… I’ve never had a Grand Marnier before, but it was the first option the waiter suggested which didn’t sound like a glassful of yuk to my peculiar tastes….

It was a beautiful evening. We laughed, we danced, we ate, we drank and we talked. The air was hot, so very hot, the sound of the waves (in the swimming pool) was almost hypnotic. The whole atmosphere was beautiful and we loved every minute of it.
